Will I be able to use ac router with verizon's 50/50 plan?

I currently have verizon's 50/50 plan and want to increase my speeds. I am getting 15 down and 15 up and when im on steam I get less than 2mbps down and it takes over a day for some games to download. I figure it's the router that is holding me back. ac is the fastest but will that benefit me a lot or should ac be used for a different plan? I appreciate any suggestions to increase speeds.

Wired directly to the router?
The Verizon router is not the issue.
Your PC, the actual cable, possibly something else.

Call Verizon and see what they say. Do NOT buy a new router in hopes that it would fix this issue.

The 15/15 you are experiencing...is this wired or WiFi to the router, and where are you testing this?
Disregard any readings you get from Steam, until we know what you see at a regular testing site like speedtest.net.

Ah, Verizon. You probably will never get any better.

They might advertise 50/50 speeds, but in the US you're highly unlikely with a starter package to ever reach the advertised 'top speed super lane' speeds as these are absolute top case scenario as if you were the only one using the internet in your neighbourhood.

Oh and the '2mbps' in steam is actually MegaBytes a second, unlike the Megabits that Speedtest uses. 2 Megabytes a second is just over 15mbps.

AC in this case would only yield better transfer speeds between devices in your local network. Your ISP is still throttling your speed wayyyy below the speed limit of Wireless AC. If you had a plan of 500/500 for example, then Wireless AC would make a huge difference over Wireless N (which is typically maxing out around 150mbps with a crowded enviroment and non ideal placement).

If you read above, he is wired to the router.
N or AC has nothing to do with this.

I was specifically commenting on if using an AC router would help speeds. Not on if it would help his wired speeds. That's just for if his speeds do get normal readings eventually.
