Hello,

I have a macbook pro from early 2011. has stopped charging & now has a green light. At first. i thought it was my charger because there was numerous times where i would have green light and i would just buy a replacement power adapter and that fixed the issue. So, i bought another power adapter and still wouldnt charge, still with the same green light. Then i said to myself maybe its the battery because before this happened i would see a "replace soon" message whenever i would check my battery status. I went ahead and bought a replacement battery, made sure it was the right one and everything and still nothing. However, i did manage to borrow a friends macbook pro and attempted to use both of my power adapters and both worked. The orange light would come up and would charge. I also ended up opening my friends macbook pro and switched the battery with the one i just had purchased and also worked well on his macbook. I left my new battery on his macbook to let it charge for a bit and placed it back on to mines now since it now had percentage. It currently has 21% and whenever i turn on my macbook, it takes a long time to boot up. Whenever i use the trackpad it takes forever to move and starts to lag. Im not sure what the issue can be. If anyone can help me solve this. I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you!

You might not want to do this but have you considered resetting (Command, Option, R -press these three keys after pushing the ON button) the computer? A clean start may help. Make sure you have everything important backed up should you decide to go that route. You don't need discs to reinstall Mac OS as the internet recovery option is available. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro and have had to reset it before.

hi brother. plug in but not charging causes sevral reason like if you see X sign on the top write bar then useally SMC (controler IO chip) is bas as it doesn't sence battery and if showing plug in charging but % doesn't exceed it could cause charging ic is malfunctioning if you are sure your battery is ok.

It does sound like your Magsafe I/O board is malfunctioning. I don't think you can find the part new anymore... but you should be able to find used/working ones on eBay for around $20 - $30. the downside is that it will require you lifting off the logic board to replace it. An experienced tech can do this in about 15 - 20 minutes.
