Is it a bad idea to attempt to overclock a CPU I intend to get rid of?

Hi everyone~! I currently have a FX-8320E (which I've heard is good when overclocked) and a 990FXA Gaming Mobo. They have treated me decently. I have zero experience overclocking but do have a close friend who can help me.

I want to upgrade to a Ryzen CPU (and an AM4 socket mobo) within the next couple of months, but in the meantime, would it be a bad idea to try to overclock the CPU I have right now? I don't have an aftermarket cooler and am currently using stock (getting 61C max load CPU temp) and was wondering if it would be a bad idea to overclock the CPU. Its resale value is quite low so I'm not too worried about what happens to it. However, I do intend to keep my video card (RX 480 4g) so I don't want to cause any harm to any other parts of my build.

CPU: AMD FX-8320E

Motherboard: MSI 990FXA Gaming

Power Supply: EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W 100-W1-0500-KR

Graphics Card: RX 480 4 GB never overclocked

Hard Disk Drive: For my OS: Toshiba MQ01ABD 750 GB

Because once it overheats it'll simply throttle and actually perform worse you have basically zero headroom. It's just and exercise in futility at those temps.

Don't even consider ocing on the stock cooler. You're already really close to the throttling temp right now, any oc would likely make you hit that point and hurt performance. You "could" get a better cooler that works with am3&am4 and use it until you Upgrade if you wish

Thanks for the reply! Just so I know, why would I not want to try if I plan on discarding the CPU anyways?
