Disk Doing WAY more work than it used to

I noticed that while playing some video games i started dropping from the game randomly every 15-20 minutes. I initially thought it was my internet or maybe the games servers, but i have confirmed that neither of those are the problems. This problem has persisted for about 3-4 days now and I seem to have found the problem.
Even things like watching a YouTube video or opening an app that doesn't use the internet, things will freeze for a few seconds. Using task manager i was able to determine that these freezes only happen when my disk usage jumps to 100% randomly. This doesn't necessarily happen when opening an app or starting a new activity, it randomly happens even after all of my processes have reached steady state. I have no idea why this is happening. I have changed nothing about my PC or configurations or settings. Any help would be amazing. Thanks.

This happened to a friend, she had this fake antimalware spamware running massive scans.

In other words, Ctrl Alt Del, look at processes cpu and disk usage. If one is spiking, force shut down if safe to do so. After that, think of how to stop it from happening next boot. Like uninstall.
