I don't see a hard switch for wifi in the devices documentation. If it does not even detect the adapter in device manager and its not detecting an unknown device in device manager, it could be that the antennas have come loose from the wireless card inside the laptop. It could also be the wireless card was disabled in the BIOS.

If its coming on intermittently showing available networks and then its going back out so its not even showing that you have a wifi adapter, you could need to reseat the network adapter. If it sees an adapter, but says no wifi in range; the antenna may have come loose from the network adapter.
