if you're on really tight budget, buy prebuilt i5 2400 hp/dell for about 100$-120$ and add in gtx 750 ti,its gonna do fine in gaming

PS: it comes with 4gb of ram,but you can add more 8gb and have 12gb later on

PS2: if you can't afford it now, save up a little more money, beacuse r7 240 is really old,and even when it came out it was low-end

I would honestly rather have a pentium G4560 than an i7 920, would cost less and probably be faster in most games. The 2600k is still kind of expensive and it's hard to justify spending that much on 8 year old hardware. If you have the money to get a Ryzen 5 or upcoming Ryzen 3 processor, I'd do that, if not, I'd get the pentium.

It'll be better to get Pentium G4600, because Intel HD 630, which is in G4600, is better than R7 240, and it costs just 10 dollars more than G4560, which has HD 610.

i7 1st-2nd gen is really old now,as chemmajorp said, you should get g4560,and then, you should save up money for decent gpu, surely you can't expect 60+ fps on 1080p on modern AAA titles, but it should do fine on e-sport games, and what is your budget, myb you can find something better?
and how much ram do you have?

Unless you play at 640x480 or even lower the r7 240 is seriously limiting your CPU...
No matter what CPU you match with this card it will suck.
If you have low budged get a decent GPU first,if you have enough cooling you can also easily overclock your CPU at least a little.

This - this is the route I would go. I wholeheartedly recommend this route. The CPU won't necessarily be quite as powerful as 1st or 2nd gen i7, but it's more modern, more efficient, and the improvement in the graphics subsystem that's included is going to make a difference.

Agree to go with modern pentium setup.

From your old socket 775 and ddr2 memory you are already going to need to get a new cpu, board, and memory so it is just stupid to throw money into another dated platform. Not to mention that i7s in those platforms are expensive because they are harder and harder to find.

now please explain

I am not certain of the particulars of BF 1, however, if you gave a 2nd-gen i5 coupled with an R7 240, it will be the R7 240 that is holding you back.

My son has a system with an i5-2320. We originally had a Radeon HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 card in it, which performs better than the R7 240. Even that 6670 was a limitation. When we upgraded to an NVidia GTX 660Ti, keeping the same i5-2320, we saw a very noticeable improvement in performance, and were able to run with higher details at 1080p resolution than we could previously.

I don't know how else to explain this to you. The 2nd generation i5, or 1st or 2nd generation i7, is not what will hold you back. The R7 240 is the biggest limitation on your system.
