Is this the proper way to ship a case?

I ordered a Mid tower case from an online store. I received it via regular mail, and the cardboard shipping box has openings/flaps on the sides for lifting or carrying the box.

Now, the problem is that the case itself is exposed through these openings - I can see scratches and a tear in the plastic bag, and can actually touch the front of the case through this opening.

Is this the way cases are normally shipped? I havent opened the parcel yet and am wondering if I should just return it as a damaged/faulty product?
