PSU and motherboard power up but nothing else

Hit the power button and the PSU powers up and the lights on the Motherboard come on but nothing else comes on.

Specs:
CPU: I5 6600k

Motherboard: Z170 Pro Gaming lga 1151

PSU: Apower Ak Series 680w

HDD: 1 tb wd blue

RAM: 8gb hyper x ram

Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case with Red LED Fans

The GPU is a gtx 970 and it's a new build (I'm asking for a friend)

There's a 8 pin and a 6 pin on the pay, told him to plug the one that fits on the mobo but he's still waiting on the GPU to come in.

Nope nothing displays and I'm not sure what video cables your talking about.

Sorry for the late reply but I think hes smart enough to plug one in but i'ma ask him. Then again he may of thought why use one without a card yet.
