on pcpartpicker i have found the corsair spec-alpha and the cooler master hyper 212 evo cooler but they are not compatible it says. i have been looking to see if it will fit and some people say it does but is it true?

Also the M9i cools better because its designed like its big brother the best H7. Teh CM212 was great in its day but the design of the aluminum doesn't help move heat way from the CPU as well like the Cryorigs with the aluminum honeycomb design. in the techpowerup review the Cryorig beats the old CM212 by a full 1C.

The Corsair Spec cases have a window that bulges outward, which means that depending on the position of the cpu socket and the orientation of the cooler, some people are able to get coolers to fit that are slightly taller than the listed max height.

However, it's impractical to predict ahead of time whether that will work, so you're probably safer either getting a shorter cooler or a different case.

It's true. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will fit inside the Corsair Spec Alpha case:

If you now look at my part list, it show a incompatibility, the 212 EVO CPU cooler is too big for the case. Guess when I realized that, for sure after I put together everything, no, just before the video card actually. I went back to microcenter to check if they would take it back, and they said they would. So I went home to disassemble it, but voila, the case cover magically fitted. There is a 2 mm difference between the spec on the case and the cooler, but the case cover had some clearance and allowed the cooler to fit.

If you are looking for a CPU cooler with Red (or Red LED) Fan, you can use the Red LED version (the Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED):

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

This LED version also fits inside the Corsair Spec Alpha case as evidenced by these builds:
