Everyone in my houses internet is bad because my PC...

I have my pc connected to router via ethernet cable. And for a while now everyone elses internet seems to be much slower. The connection doesnt seem as strong. Is that because the router is prioritizing my pc rather than everyone elses internet.

My stepbrother is trying to use his laptop but it wont let him connect/slow asf.

You may either need:

  • 1. More Bandwidth (buy faster connection from ISP)
    2. A better router (less prone to interference)
    3. De-prioritize your usage at the router level so everyone else isn't starving
    • (this may involve #2 depending on how the traffic needs to be diced)
A few questions:
What are the speeds you're paying for from your ISP (up/down)?
What are you actually getting?
What kind of modem, how old? (make, model)
What kind of router? (make, model)

from your wired connection check the router firmware.make sure it has the newest one. also check for any errors in it log files. also check the age of the unit. if it a few years old it might not have any ram on the unit. newer router now have some ram for caching. also see if the unit has dust and is over heating.

Thank you for the fast responses by the way. I don't pay for the internet in my house my dad does but I will ask him all of these questions I'm about to download new firmware and update you guys on the brand and model of router it is. Sorry for the late response I'm a lazy dude.
