I've been in a pickle recently on what card i should pick, ofcourse im gonna wait until this mining craze is over before i buy either card bc of the inflated price but, im just going to play every game, gta v, day z, pubg, and all kinds of other new games releasing within the next year and i've done research and the 1060 will play just about every game with max settings but some it falls short which leads me to the 1070 which i would like to just crank every game up to max settings and have some head room rather than just barely making it... so is the 1060 better to go with or is the 1070 too overkill for 1080p gaming? budget isn't too tight but if the 1060 performs swell saving $100 is always good, thanks in advance...

I currently own the GTX 1060 6GB and I've previously owned the 980 Ti, which is roughly equivalent to the 1070. If you want to max out game in 1080p, then go for the 1070. Just try not to pay too much over $400 USD. If you can't find stock on NewEgg or Amazon, then look at EVGA's b-stock site: https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=8&family=GeForce+10+Series+Family&chipset=GTX+1070

* Only 3 of 4 GTX 1070s on the b-stock site have the higher 1594+ MHz base clock. I suggest that you only consider one of those, instead of the DT card with a 1506 MHz base clock.

All 3 of those are heavily CPU dependent.

The 1060 6Gb would do the job great but if you can afford it a 1070 would be nice for future proofing. (Yes i know future proofing doesnt exist blah blah blah, you know what i mean)

Yeah i've upgraded my cpu recently so it should handle those but the 1050ti isn't keeping up lmao but im leaning more towards the 1070 due to the relief im just throwing max settings and not worrying

The GTX 1060-6GB is meant for 1080p/60Hz gaming wherein most (not all) games can reach 50-60fps easily, even on max. settings. However, AAA games (such as GTA V), will struggle to reach 60fps on ultra eye-candy settings (probably around 30-ish to 40-ish, depending on the areas within the game). So, it depends on your preferences if you are willing to decrease graphics settings to reach acceptable framerates. If you want all maxed out, the GTX 1070 (meant for 1440p/60Hz or 1080p/120Hz, Ultra) is not an overkill. However, prices of the GTX 1070 now are very close to the prices of the GTX 1080 (1440p/120Hz or 1080p/144Hz).

If you are seriously considering the GTX 1070 (around $475-$500 now), might as well just add $10-$30 more to get the GTX 1080 (and look at getting a 1080p/144Hz monitor soon). If budget is tight, a GTX 1060-6GB will still be a good upgrade from a GTX 1050 Ti, but, you'd have to decrease some graphics settings in AAA games to reach 60fps.

I'm planning on waiting for the prices to go back down to normal, 1070 is around $400 then and the 1080 is $550 and I'm not planning on going into 1440p gaming but 1080 144hz I will probably do, I'm not even going to touch 4K until there are cards that don't break the bank but can handle 4K with ease
