OK so I did ask this question before with a different set up but now I have bought a new HP Pavilion 570-p088na Desktop, with - AMD Radeon R5 435 - 2 GB GDDR5 this graphics card as standard. This has a HDMI and a VGA Port! I want to initially be using two screens as 1 monitor and also be editing video as well as music in the future on this set up and would kind of like to get it right from the start. So if anyone can offer advice on these to questions please, that would be great.
q1/ To use the two screes as 1 monitor do I need to get a new graphics card for this machine or can I simply us a VGA > HDMI adapter? (Already ordered this to simple get up and running).
q2/ If this adapter works, should I still get a better graphics card for video editing later?

Thanks

Solution
You don't need to get away from analog. It is just nice for a mildly better picture.

1. VGA to HDMI should work. If the adapter is well made. It still doesn't get you away from analog.

2. You aren't going to add much with the built in PSU. You might get away with a GT 1030 as it's power draw is less than 50w max. Which is less than R7 450 in the higher end Pavillion 570 model with the same PSU. But it would be pushing that PSU to its absolute limit under max load. It really isn't recommended for a 180w PSU. If it is well made it should take it.

If you replace the PSU. You can place a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti in there. I wouldn't bother going any higher with that computer.

3. The degree of difficulty isn't much different than installing...

And what advice can you offer for

q2/ What graphics card can you suggest that will be a straight upgrade from the one I have? (AMD Radeon R5 435 - 2 GB GDDR5)
q3/ How difficult is it to instal myself?? I have never done anything like this before.

Many thanks

3. The degree of difficulty isn't much different than installing a printer. Just turn it off, change cards, connect everything back up, turn it on and install the drivers. The real issue is if the PSU can handle it. Upgrading the PSU is a bit more time consuming. All the connectors are designed to only fit the correct parts. Unless you try to force something where it doesn't belong. It is pretty straight forward.

There are cheaper power supplies which will work. But the Seasonic is quite high quality. I can't recommend a significantly inferior PSU that will only save you $8.

Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card ($145.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: SeaSonic - S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($47.79 @ SuperBiiz)

You can also look at the GTX 1050, Radeon Rx 460 and Rx 560 for budget option.

Just keep in mind these will only improve display quality a little. Unless you are getting a lot of ghosting, blurriness or static from that adapter. Then they will improve it a lot.

As far a video editing work goes. They will only improve tasks which can make use of the GPU.

Wow. Thank you so much for your time and advice. That information helps greatly. I have ordered the MSI AMD Radeon RX 460 4G OC 4 GB, and will get it in a weeks time. I think with the advice I have received here I am at a very good project start point. Once again, many thanks.

Your welcome. I did mean for those other video cards to be paired with a new PSU. I don't think that 180w PSU will handle anything above the GT 1030. Even the GT 1030 is pushing it and may overload it depending on the PSU quality. As it handles the R7 450 it should handle the GT 1030. But, the Rx 460 uses another 25w under load.

If price is a a concern you can go as low as this EVGA. The quality is decent enough for your uses. Although I'd prefer the Seasonic.

Hello again velocityg4
So I did order this card upgrade of the MSI AMD Radeon RX 460, before your valuable and concise run down last night. I did NOT unearth at any point that I would be trying to run it on a vastly inferior PUS; so thank you for that. Finally before I order this EVGA 450 B1, 80+ BRONZE 450W, is this the PSU that I should get and will I be able to fit this into my HP Pavilion casing. I am excited with all this new information and this unit is within my budget although I am a bit worried about the installation!!!
Any tips before I place this order would be great.
Again many thanks for your help, really is calming and a big help!
Cheers
Fray

As far as I can tell. It just uses a standard ATX PSU. The bolt pattern in the back looks normal as does the 24pin motherboard power and 4 pin CPU power on the Pavillion 570 series. The width of the case is right as well.

Either the EVGA or Seasonic should work. I'd buy the Seasonic over the EVGA. It has superior build quality. The difference isn't huge. The Seasonic is a Tier 2 unit and the EVGA is a Tier 3. If budget is a concern. The EVGA is fine. I wouldn't link it if the quality isn't acceptable. The Seasonic is just better.

If you want clean wiring they make modular models. Since the case doesn't have a side window. I don't see the point. I'd just zip tie them.

Good Day to you velocityg4
Not sure if this is the done thing to ask another question - let me know if it is not good.
Ok, so I am going bonkers here. I have to wait for my Radeon Card to arrive but in the interim period I am trying to get my monitors to work from a either a VGA/HDMI adapter cable or a straight VGA/VGA. I am obviously so new to this tech world but this should work right?
I messaged Radeon about my existing card AMD R5 435 and they said

"I understand you are unable to extend display on two monitor on your computer equipped with AMD Radeon R5 435 graphics card. However you are able to duplicate the screen.
Please try the below suggestion and check that you are able extend windows on two screen.
Please discard the eyefinity settings from the Radeon software.
I request you to go to the desktop and press Windows Key + P hotkey and then select extend option from the menu."

This is all well and good and another area that I now know exists but it doesn't help at all as the card is not detecting the monitor (Samsung HD 24"), no matter how I configure the leads, the monitors, the start up process. It just does not want to detect the second monitor when I go into any of the display settings. Surely I am missing something and this card should be able to power 2 monitors even if one is by analog???
Best wishes from rainy London
