Is 90C too hot while running intelburn test on i7 7700k?

I just did a intelburn test for 21 minutes on i7 7700k and got temp around 88-90C without any oc. Should I be getting this high temp and should I oc this cpu? btw I am using H100i v2 and here is the picture of the test http://imgur.com/YVNjVcO

Some 7700K's run warmer than others, but, I still consider it about 20C higher than normal based on my own Intel stress tests...(63C)....

When it comes to thermal paste, less is better....; I spread an ultra-thin layer (using grey Noctua paste) to within 1/8" of the outer edge of heat shield, and so thin you can see through it...

If temps are only 60C during gaming, I'd not be worried over impending thermal throttling, etc....
Its a bit high so possibly get a case fan to point at the VRM's to get everything a bit cooler. If not enough then you should retry the thermal paste and check if the cooler face isnt concaved needing lapped. Also voltage is a bit high for stock as 1.35v is highest it should be so try changing the voltage manually to 1.21v.

yes, it's high. You are going to run into thermal throttling soon. If you are OC'ing, dial it back. If these are your normal stress temps, you need a better cooler and more expensive thermal paste. Actually looking at your pic, thats at stock. I'd be looking at getting a new cooler, better paste amongst other things. At idle you should be about mid 30's. Gaming maybe about mid 40's 50 low 50's, at full load, stress tresting etc, you don't want to be getting to 90+ c. Not good.

edit: you wont' kill the processor at 90+, but your gonna burn it out fast. Something is not right.

double edit: just seen your running an h100i. You should not be anywhere near those temps. Simple as.

So when installing H100i I put it on cpu upside down and immediately removed it to install it correctly. Just ordered thermal paste and cleaner. Playing DOOM on high I got 60C as high and on Overwatch around 50. Hopefully reapplying thermal paste will help. So this is my first pc can you tell me how to clean existing thermal paste and reapply it?

So I set the vcore temp to 1.21 but can't seem to figure out how to change VID temp

Ok if you set CPU voltage in bios then retest your CPU see if it helped temps.

You can change vcore (core voltage) in the bios. You can't change vid, that's a value that's internal on the cpu from the factory and deals with power expectations. To clean off thermal paste it's best to use a lint free cloth, something like a microfiber cloth or coffee filters. Something that doesn't leave lint behind. Use a bit of isopropyl rubbing alcohol, it cleans residue off and it evaporates very quickly without leaving moisture behind.

Expensive thermal pastes aren't necessarily the answer. Most aftermarket thermal paste runs within 1-3c of each other when tested so you're not generally going to drop 10-20c using premium thermal paste. There are a few that are different, liquid metal types but they're more difficult to work with. They're usually runny (easy to spill, could be problematic) and can interact poorly with different metal types causing corrosion.

Delidding may be an option but will void the warranty. Intel cpu's have been using thermal compound (vs solder) between the actual cores and the ihs (the metal cover on the cpu that the cooler presses against) for quite awhile but the 7700k's seem more plagued by heat issues. Delidding can improve temps by 15-20c depending on the cooler, new thermal compound and how it's mounted but it's something I'd consider a last resort. A cpu can be damaged if not careful when delidding and as mentioned it will void the warranty.

60C during gaming is about as good as you can expect....

What do you mean, 'put it on upside down'....logo of water bloack facing wrong way?( It would not seem possible to think the logo faces down on the heat shield, and copper plate up....I wouldn't think...)

No, logo facing upside down not the whole block.

I just reapplied thermal paste and now I am getting temps around 80-83 running Intel burn test on maximum. Are these temps normal or still high?

Using prime 95 I got temps around 74C. I was using the Blend in Torture test.

you should use 'small FFT's' for Prime, this just tests the CPU and will give a more realistic idea of where your CPU temps are at.
