is harddrive overheating?

Solution
Well several things are making it hot...with just one exhaust fan, the air that needs to get in so some can get out is likely coming in thru your rear case grille and bringing your hot PSU and GFX card exhaust along with it.

Again, with the scant information being provided, its hard to offer any productive recommendation other than adding the missing intake fan. But with just 2 fan mounts in total, you don't have many options with that case.

I only have one rear case fan. no side top or front case fan. no dust

Desktop or lappie ?

What are you using to measure ?

Cooling system Description ?

What's inside the box making it hot ?

My case fans have shut off at the moment (CPU under no strain so low temps) so drive temps are at about 38C.... usually it's about 31-35 but it was hot today (90ish) and I don' have AC on at the moment (82F - 28C))

An IBM white paper released in the 90s concluded that a 10C rise in HD temps reduced lifespan by 50%

On a lappie 55C is not unusual.
