you may need to create a new partition for the hard drive in the "disk management" section of your PC.
Right click the windows icon in the bottom left corner and look for "disk management".
Once you are in there it should show all connected drives and their partitions.
Look for your hard drive that you installed, it should show as a black box saying "Unallocated space"
Right click on the black box and select "new simple volume" and a popup for the wizard should appear.
from there verify the size of the partition you want (by default it will use the whole drive, this is fine in your case)
decide the name and letter of the drive and hit OK.
presto changeo you've got a newly formatted hard drive.

hope this helps :)
