I have a TPLINK TL-WR841N wireless router. It used to drop connections and I would power cycle and then it would start working again. But now it has started dropping connections literally every minute. I recently added two echo dots and a nest to the network. When I look at the router page I see there are 7 devices connected which is expected. I connected directly to the modem and got good connectivity. Are 7 connections too much for the router to handle?

If it was dropping the connection even before you added more devices to it, then it's illogical to think it's happening because it can't handle that many.

You simply need to dig deeper in to your pockets and buy a more reliable router. There's aren't many router brands that I'd consider buying - - can only think of two - - Billion (my current one) and Draytek.

All the consumer-priced models I've bought (Netgear, D-Link, TP Link) began to drop WiFi connection after a few months, several times a day it was happening. So I spent twice as much on a Billion wall-mounted one, one of the best IT equipment purchases I've ever made.
