Finally got the AMD Blackbox FX 8350 on sale for $89.99 delivered from Monoprice.com. I am having a terrible time trying to seat the heatsink fan. I'm is my 60s and have short stubby fingers. Taking the old AMD FX 4100 out was a no brainer, of course. For the life of me I can't get both clips to latch. I have the heatsink laying on the CPU with one latch for the time being. The system seems to be running sluggish and strange. Do I need to do anything else to the system, bios etc. The MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-990 FXA-UD3 bios F2 with an id of 8A02BG10. It shows the cpu with all 8 cores running in the task manager but some programs are acting goofy. CPU-Z would not run so I deleted it and can't seem to get the new d/l to work. Starting the control panel took time to load. Everything worked fine before the switch. I have a Corsair H2o water cooler maybe I should install it since I want to crank out 5.0 Ghz out of this thing in the near future. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I still can't seem to get it on. I saw on YouTube installs they skip the actual install video of the heatsink. One said it took him over 20 minutes to get it done. I compared the stock heatsink that came off the FX4100 that I took off and the lever has 3 times the extra play to tighten up. I should probably give up and buy an aftermarket. Everything I seem to read on here seems to say it is garbage anyway and can barely keep up running stock with no OC. I have it sitting on the cpu now and it's pretty noisy. The water cooler I have is the Antec 620 V4 Kuhler, I thought it was a Corsair, but I have lost the mounting brackets and I can't find replacements. After reading a lot of horror stories about the different liquid coolers leaking in the ratings from Amazon I am going to skip that route. I guess I will spend a day going over the posts here to find a decent heatsink fan for a decent price. I emailed AMD about this problem but I'm not holding my breath.

Many or maybe even all aftermarket coolers with at least 120mm fan and at least 3 heat pipes will be much better than that crap AMD gives with their processors of older generations. Newer, Wraith coolers are better but not for any sizable OC.
Only top notch 140 -150mm coolers will let you approach 5GHz but none are actual bargain being very expensive. Liquid AiO coolers are very safe now and may be even better deal. I have a CM Nepton 140XL for couple of years now and no problems with it while it cools much better than any large air cooler I had.

Thank you. $200+ for me is out of the question. I guess it's just as well this thing wouldn't go on.
So now the search begins. I think after reading some posts I will try and just oc to the 4.5 range and look for a cooler
with good reviews and maybe in the $29.99 range from Amazon. They have the best return policy of anybody so no frustration. Thanks again for the help and if you happen to come across a good suggestion on what I'm looking for please send me a note.
