why does my microphone sound bad in every porgram i use?

my mic works in teamspeak, skype and discord but literally ALL of them im told I sound like a robot. I have a studio quality mic so its not the actual microphone itself, anyone got any ideas?

Some studio mikes need an amp, can you post make/model ?

Some mics like you to be very very close, others keep some distance. Try both positions.

Use the mic check / sykpe callback function to hear what you sound like.

This issue may be due to corrupt audio drivers/settings.
I suggest running audio troubleshooter. Please follow these steps:

1. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
2. Click troubleshooting in the search results.
3. Click "View all" and then click "Playing Audio".
4. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.
Update audio drivers from the manufacturer's website and check for issue.

my mic is the RODE NT1-A
using the skype callback function i also sound like a robot, its as if im lagging
yet if i use the "hear yourself" function on windows recording properties i sound crystal clear
tried every position its just still the same

Used it several times and I says it could not identify the problem as ive already updated drivers etc.

Thats a great condenser mic. How are you providing the required 48 volt phantom current ?

some Neewer supply, regardless the strange thing is that literally any microphone i use sounds awful. Ive had this issue for a week and it seems literally NO ONE can figure out the problem

Any chance that mic needs a pre-amp, not just power? Can you see the mic input LEVEL adjustment that windows is making? In windows10, open SOUND, hit he recording tab, select your mic and see the level as you talk. Really low levels are not what you want. You can see how far windows is boosting the input signal by opening properties and lookiing at the levels tab. 100 is full boost, and again not what you want.

If you have a receiver or amp, just as a test, can you route the mike output to the receiver and then run line-out to the PC ? That may tell us if the levels from the mic are too low for the sound card/MB audio input.

I'm assuming you are not using any equalizer plug-ins.

levels are at 65, and like i said the "listen to this device" sounds great its just in the programs that the mic sounds like a robot

Thanks for trying to help, just an update, ive concluded that its my internet as i found out i have a similar issue on my phone when calling.

WOW. This makes sense. It fits all the facts:
Local mic use = wonderful
Remote mic use where applications can reduce quality to hit available internet bandwidth = bad.

Can you use Skype and display sound quality while running to prove the theory. This is how you do it:
".. Skype does display the connection quality. However, users need to go through a few procedures to make the display available.

"A user needs to go to Skype > Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection, click on the "Display technical call info during calls" and Save, to activate the option. During a call, the user can hoop the mouse onto the "blank" area and the technical data of the connection quality will be displayed".

Or can you run a speed test and post the results (any of the ISP test sites should be fine). You'd need to be a good bit less than 1 mbit/sec to effect audio quality (think 128K MP quality or less).

Check your QoS settings because voice sevices can be set to low. When a voice packet gets delayed in reaching its destination, the destination gateway has a loss of real-time information. In this event, the destination gateway must predict what the content of missed packet can be. The prediction leads to the received voice not being the same characteristics when transmitted. This leads to a voice that sounds robotic.

very old thread but in case anyone is here in need: it was my internet, still not sure WHY exactly but it was. I got fibre optic and now all my mics work perfect, i never had "bad internet" but for some reason changing to fibre optic worked??!?
