Broadwell-E still a good buy over Skylake X?

Is Broadwell-E still a good CPU option over Skylake X at this point? I normally would prefer to go with the latest releases however after hearing numerous of thermal reports that Skylake X is having so far I'm still skeptical going that route and seriously considering the Broadwell-E chips. I have a 4U rack mount case for my setup that won't have any space to install a liquid cooler for the CPU. Instead I have Noctua's heatsink fans in dual mode. My choice was for fans because I need a very quiet system for my build and the liquid coolers tend to get bit louder.

So, would anyone still choose to go with an OLDER chip over the NEW? Anyone out there who are in a similar situation? Any thoughts or advise you could share?!

Ryzen is intended for work and productivity above all else. You could have gotten an 8 core Ryzen 7 1700x. It would have blew that 6 core 6850K out of the water for what you need a CPU for. Actually Ryzen isn't the best gaming CPU but it's an awesome work CPU. The CPU market moves slow these days. You can use a CPU for 5+ years and it will be useful the entire time. In the last 5 years ipc has only increased by 15% on Intel. So as you can see things are moving rather slow. Here we regularly recommend people with a 5 year old Core i7 3770K to keep it a few more years. So as long as 6 cores remains what you need I can see you keeping that CPU for longer than 3 years. In this world of slow CPU speed increases 3 years is nothing. Kaby lake...
Let's compare prices and other things and find out. Also let's add in Ryzen and see how that affects price.

These aren't builds I'm recommending they are just there to help see what a broadwell-e vs skylake-x vs ryzen is like pricewise.

If I wanted to go with anything less than 10 cores Ryzen seems to be the best choice for price to performance. It seems like Skylake-X is usually a better deal than Broawell-E though. Skylake-X does have heat problems when overclocked but broadwell-e gets hot too when overclocked and can't clock as high. I think overall I'd go with either the cheaper platform Ryzen or the newer platform from Intel Skylake-x. Broadwell-e Doesn't seem to be worth it compared to either of those options.

I won't be overclocking for my use. I am not a gamer either, and most of the time it sounds like Ryzen is intended more for gamers out there. I intend to use for work and productivity. I don't know much about AMD but all I know is that most folks in the audio editing world use Intel cpus.

I've actually ordered x99 with a 6850k. Broadwell-e prices were lower than ever at this time and all components carefully picked were just under $2800. Prior to this I had pre-ordered a 7820x but cancelled it as it was still back ordered not knowing when it would become available. I'm coming from a Mac user and never really have used Windows before, and a first time pc builder. I hope the Broadwell-E platform is still a good investment for another good 2-3 years or so?

Kaby lake brought nothing new to the table, Coffee Lake looks to be bringing 2 extra cores to the mainstream, and cannonlake might bring that 5% ipc improvement we've been waiting for. If Coffee Lake is coming next month like some people might think it is then you might have been better off with a Core i7 8700K(If that's what it's called.) It will be a 6 core part. It's been said that even the Core i5 will be a 6 core part. It's looking like it will be 2020 before we hit a 10% increase in ipc from right now. So you may very well be able to keep that CPU way past 2020.
