Hello.I have i7 4790K CPU with GB Z97X-Gaming3 MB and NH U14S - Noctua .Every time i try to overclock my cpu after a couple of minutes stress testing my pc always crashes.

Settings i have tested.
4.6Ghz with Vcore 1.3 - 1.36 and i got the watchdog error my temps were between 65 - 75.
I used AIDA,OCCT and streaming while playing Mass Effect Andromeda and some other games and my pc always crashes
and sometimes just freezes.I even tried 4.5 at 1.34 and again my pc crashed.I also tried to play a bit with the VCC Ring(1.290) and the VCCIN(2.000) but that didnt help. Also when i overclock my CPU and i try to stress test the FPU(with aida) the temps spike to 90-99C and the
power statistics from aida shows that CPU Package and IA cores jump to 130-150 they are 75-85 at stock settings.
I will be glad if someone gives me a solution. Thanks.

For reference, I run my 4690K at 4.7GHz (ASUS Z97-AR) on 1.3v with an NH-D14 and hit 65C under load. Your cooler is not that far behind mine in performance, so that's pretty convincing you did not win the silicon lottery.

Not all i7 4790K CPU will overclock to 4.5Ghz. Some overclock better than others. It is called the silicon lottery.
But 4.3Ghz is only 4% slower. You will hardly notice the difference.
Try getting a stable overclock at 4.3Ghz and 1.25 Vcore

I have 2 old PCs which I built from new about 7 years ago. Both AMD Phenom II x4, Identical motherboards, memory etc.
I overclocked one of them to 4.06Ghz, which is very good, and the other overclocked to 3.5Ghz, which is very disappointing. I tried all the tricks, read the forums. No joy. Like I said, the silicon lottery
Many years later, Both still run OK, though of course not used for gaming any more.
The funny thing is, for most apps, you can't really tell the difference in speed.
Even if you are editing a large video, the fast one takes 6 mins to encode, and the slow one takes 7 mins. Big deal - it is a cup of coffee either way.

Overclocking is still an art, not a science, The ability to overclock(and how much) is NEVER guaranteed. All the "k" means is you have permission to overclock, not that a certain level of overclock is attainable. YMMV is ALWAYS in effect!
