Motherboard RGB light is on but power button does nothing

Hey I recently purchased a new pc and built it securely. However when I pressed the on button on the front io nothing worked and it made a weird sound like it wanted to turn on but it didn't. Again, the motherboard RGB lights are on but that's the only thing that seems to be receiving power.

Pc Parts

PSU: Silverstone 850W
Motherboard: Micro ATX asusZ270G gaming
Gpu: GTX 1080ti
Cpu: i7-7700k

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, Try testing the board outside the case, only CPU, CPU cooler and single RAM module installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cables connected. No other wires/fans/components.

Hey thanks for responding. Going to be hard to do with a all in one water cooler but I'll give it a shot

My first thought as well check main power cables make sure connected both ends & correctly.

hey thanks for responding, I'm quite sure it must be something to be the cpu connectivity. I did apply a slightly more than pea sized amount of thermal paste to the cpu, could that be the issue?
