If the socket matches and so does the manufacturer does that mean I don't have to update the BIOS?

Solution
Am I right that this is a factory PC, a factory brand sort of speak?
If so, the BIOS ver. and cpu support list doesn't come from the motherboard, but rather from the name or the brand of the PC.
Either way, I cannot find that on Asus site at all.

Can You be more specific and also- is it an Asus computer because You did n' tell?
Best regards from Sweden
It depends.
The best way to find out, is to check the motherboard manufacturers support site, list of supported CPU and from which Bios ver.
Usually called CPU Support.

If You give as an example of which motherboard and processor model, we can perhaps help you to find out.

The socket matches and my BIOS version is 0802, I'm sure at this point that it isn't locked since there is no password and I can access all tabs but how can I be sure?
