Bad psu(cable) causing graphics card driver crashes?

Since yesterday I have been experiencing driver crashes while playing games (Nvidia Display driver stopped working and has recovered) The pc would freeze for a while, then recover, or shut down entirely with the fans still running.

I borrowed a friend's gpu and plugged it in, but the pc would only give a bios screen and then a flickering _ . I tried plugging the other psu cable into the gpu and then it did boot up. My gpu uses both of the psu cables, one 6 pin and an 8 pin.

So I assume my psu is the problem, but just to be safe I'll ask it here, maybe it could still be something else.

My specs:

AMD fx6300 six core processor 3.49GHz
Asrock 970 pro3 motherboard
16GB corsair vengeance ram
MSI GTX 780 TF 3GD5/OC graphics card
Sharkoon wpm700 700W PSU (non modulair, so can't just buy a new cable)

If I would buy a new psu, what would be a good one for this system between 50-80 euros?

You're gpu is fine. You have a very low tier PSU and I suggest getting a new one with 600 or 650w of power since the 780 is a power hungry card. I suggest based from ur budget getting a Corsair TX650M 80+ Gold, Corsair CX 650M 80+ Bronze (one with silver label), Seasonic S12G 650W 80+ Gold, Seasonic S12II 620W bronze, Seasonic G650 80+ Gold Semi Modular, EVGA GS, G2, GQ or G3 650W power supply. Find a good deal from among these and also you could also check other great power supplies here at tomshardware PSU section or at https://linustechtips.com/main/forum/21-cases-and-power-supplies/ Cheers! :)

Don't get Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold. I have a similar problem like you do, even with this PSU.
Such an issue never occurred before with my PC(ASUS Rog Tytan G30AB), with its default Antec 700W Silver PSU.

Do you have ur CPU overclocked? Also, turn off that energy efficient button if you got any on your PSU. That's what i did with my PSU and now it's not crashing. I even downgraded to GTX 1050 Ti, from my beloved GTX 770(which is a power hungry b%^^h), but 770 works flawlessly for encoding n stuff. Even with CS:Go :)

So,
1. Turn off such energy efficiency feature
1. Try not OC the CPU. Have "Balance" in Power settings in Windows.
3. Use the GPU driver that the brand provides. Not nVIDIA's. If you use nVIDIA, use ver 353 (windows 10)
4. Make sure you're providing ur GPU enough watts with two cables; don't use one cable to plug it into six pin and 4 pin. You need one cable to plug into 6 pin(let the 4 pin hang), and a second cable to plug into 4pin(let 6 pin hang).
5. Make sure you've UEFI drivers (go to run, type dxdiag, and keep an eye on it's screen while clicking next next... it will tell u if a driver isn't UEFI.
6. Make sure your BIOS UEFI settings are either "Auto".

Good luck! :)
