Vastly Different Temps in Monitoring Programs

Hi all,

I recently built a new rig w/ water cooling and am having some temperature issues. My motherboard's "Real-time Onboard Temperature Sensors" read around 60 Celsius while idling and CPU ID HWMonitor reads the same 60 with a max of 71 Celsius while idling. Core Temp on the other hand reads all cores idling at about 35 celsius but will randomly jump to 43 for a moment before dropping back down to 35. On average there is a 20 degrees difference between Core Temp and the MSI (mobo) monitoring software.

The system is an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
MSI Krait Gaming x370
16 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 mhz RAM (2 x 8)
Asus 960 GTX Strix 4GB (holdover from my old machine til replaced)
Deepcool Captain 240 All-in-One Liquid CPU Cooler with 240mm Dual-fan Radiator
Windows 10 64 Bit

I went back and removed the stock thermal paste from the Deepcool kit and applied arctic silver along with reseating and making sure the heatsink was properly aligned and seated. This hasn't helped me and I still see extremely high idle temps and excessive spikes under load to dangerous temps. This doesn't make sense to me given water cooling, reasonable ambient temp and a Thor case that is chock full of fans. Is it possible that just Core Temp is correct? Please advise as I'm pretty worried by all this.

Solution
iirc Ryzen has issues with temp monitoring. Some programs will add 20C to the temp, others will do other things. I believe the AMD program is accurate, not sure about others.
