I was wondering if a reasonably overclocked Ryzen 1600 can perform the same (or better) than an i5 7600.

Solution

Depends on what it is. On single threaded applications, the i5 is going to perform slightly better than a Ryzen. For multi-threaded applications, the Ryzen is going to perform a lot better than the i5.

If you play a lot of older games that are lightly threaded, or just use a single thread, then the i5 is probably the better choice. If you're playing mostly newer titles, then they have a much higher chance of utilizing more threads, and the Ryzen would be the best option.

Overall? I'd go with the 1600 long before I bought an i5....
