is it ok to plug in the psu first

i don't have all my parts for my computer yet and I'm very eager to get it done, I read somewhere that you shouldn't to but I don't know exactly.

Yes it's fine I suppose, but it won't be powering anything, so it's absolutely pointless.

You can put it in the case, but I would turn off the POWER SWITCH. If that's done then plugging the power cable into the wall will help GROUND the system which can help eliminate static shocks when building though leave the power cable off for now.

But, practically speaking I always build a computer THIS way.

1) put motherboard on box (with some give)
2) turn PSU power switch off, attach to wall power and motherboard
3) add memory, CPU, CPU cooler, attach to monitor (just the bare essentials)
4) turn on PSU, then short the POWER ON jumpers
5) If system boots up then turn off PSU POWER SWITCH, then disconnect from motherboard and put motherboard into the case. Build system.

**But you can pretty much build the system how you want. Not sure doing ANYTHING now saves you much time if you're still waiting parts.

Ditto, I don't suggest installing the PSU first, since cables will have to be around the long way too, meaning you need to reach into the basement into a tangle of cables and connectors you don't know the ports of.

Normally I put the PSU in last personally, I Just set up the whole system, then do cables after.
