I7 7700k over Ryzen 1700

I need a system that's good all around for both rendering and gaming. Initially i was set on the Ryzen 1700.
However, after weeks of debating
I've decided to go w the i7 7700k. The reason is that i have purchased a really nice mATX case that i have been wanting for quite some time. I was all set to do a Ryzen build and began searching for an AM4 mATX motherboard. Well, as most of u know the list is small and i just wasn't too excited about the few choices that are available. Intel has a greater variety of mATX motherboards which made the decision easy.

Maybe Ryzen will have more mATX boards n the future and if/when they do i will surely create another build! As for now intel is the winner!

I'd say the 7700k is fine, just make sure you can cool it decently in the small case. Everyone has different wants/needs, if you prefer a smaller case and there's a lack of matx boards for ryzen then intel makes sense. Overall the 1700 would have been better for rendering most likely but if it doesn't fit your other criteria then it doesn't fit.

In my opinion, you've made a poor choice. If you want to do more than game, the 1700 is the better option. There is not a lack of motherboard choices. There are plenty of options with a few standouts. The ridiculous variations of Intel chips and their boards never made sense. Still doesn't. An ASUS Hero VI or an ASRock Taichi offer more than enough. Saying you won't go with a 1700 because of a lack of board choices makes no sense.... what features do you need that you can't find?? Yeah, another car analogy... like saying you won't buy brand X because they only have 7 models but you'll buy brand Y because they have 7 models each in 10 shades of red.

What do you need? Then, what do you want for features? Budget? Tasks? If you are doing rendering and likely multiple apps at one time, the 1700 will wholly out-pace the Intel in overall productivity. There is no argument based on fact and reason.

I wouldn't let a case dictate a build.

A 7700K is overkill in 90% of builds I see for what people plan on doing with it. Your choice is fine. I personally would take the 1700 over it due to the actual physical core advantage, price, and included cooler.

Nothing wrong w a case dictating a build..... I do have more than one computer :)
