I've made a upgrade to Win 10 64X myself, you will miss Win 7 but once you get used to it, you won't just leave anymore saying it shortly I'll make some few comparisons here so you can get a better idea -

Win 10 -

* Better use of computer resources such as RAM, Disk and so On...
* Better UI and Apps
* Slightery faster boot specially if you've got a SDD
* Integration with Xbox Live if you do have Xbox One
* Better compatibility with mostly games and applications for our current age
* Direct-X 12 Api for Games - Its getting more and more common to be used in a lot of games but it's not a present reality since most games are still running better with DX 11, it will get better for sure
* Improved Security and Functionalities
* You can...
Better than Win8/8.1? yes
Better than Win7? Not exactly....but you are forced to upgrade since the Win7 support comes to an end.

More FPS on Win10? perhaps 1-3 fps, if any. Your PC itself is the most determining factor. I do not notice one single bit and I am among those early Win10 adopters.

Well your PC should have no problem running Windows 10 Home 64 bit* or Windows 10 Pro 64 bit* but Win 10 may be spying on you. Windows 10 is more secure against viruses, but it doesn't give you the Win 7 privacy.

*only the 64 bit version supports more than 4gb RAM.

as far as gaming goes... if you want to play titles using DX12, then that is exclusive to Win 10 (ie. won't run on Win 7)

besides that, there's not too much difference performance wise

Win 10 is marginally faster and imo has a better UI

Win 7 reaches it's end of life with Microsoft in 2020, so as more time goes by it will be supported less and less until support officially ends in 2020

* You can reinstall windows without loosing your whole data like pictures, images, downloads and stuff without any extra software help, windows can backup anything

Win 7 -

* Still one of the most used Windows out there and yeah, it still fast, simple and incredible easy to use
* Only DX 10 or 11 support, if you ever come to play a game that only uses DX 12 even if I find that a little uncommon to happen, you won't be able to play it..
* Some games are Windows 10 exclusive which means less games on your playlist
* Support is coming to an end soon..
* Still runs mostly of new and old applications and games
* Simple UI
* Regular boot speed

Now from my personal experience, upgrading from Win 7 to 10 for gaming it does improve in some games like Battlefield for example, but not all games will have either a boost or a decrease in performance, but since Windows 10 itself uses less resources than Win 7, lets persay have "better managament), things just run faster with Windows 10 in general, applications and etc... but without a Good Spec, don't expect any improvement. The truth is sad and short, if you wanna keep playing new games you will have to upgrade in future, but if you are cool with the ones you have it, then stay with the gud old Win 7.

Hope that helps

In terms of overall game performance, tests has shown that games generally runs marginally better in Windows 10, but you will need to look at benchmark results to notice the difference.

In terms of interface, I like Windows 7 a lot more. Windows 8 / Windows 10 does not feel intuitive to me. I needed to do Google search on where to find certain Windows 8 / 10 settings that were very easy for me to get to in Windows 7. An example would be System Properties where I want to change the location of the Pagefile. In Windows 7 I simply had to right click the My Computer icon on my desktop, click Properties and then click the Advanced System Settings.

In Windows 10 I would assume I can find the Advanced System Settings by clicking the Settings icon from the Windows button, and then click on the System icon. Nope, not there. Searching Google the recommended steps are as follows:

Method #1

- Press the Windows button and R at the same time to bring up the Run window. Or right click the Windows Icon and click Run.
- Type in SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe

This is not the same as Advanced System Settings since it only brings up Performance Options. From there I can go into the Advanced tab change the Pagefile.

Method #2
- Right click the Windows icon, then click Search.
- Type in Control Panel which brings up the classic Control Panel that I am used to using.
- Click System and Security
- Click System
- Click Advanced System Settings

Yeah, if you want play DirectX 12 games, then you have no choice but to use Windows 10 since DX12 is exclusive to Microsoft's current OS.

Additionally, Microsoft has made a deal with Intel where the current generation (Kaby Lake) and future generation CPUs will only support Windows 10 (or newer) OS. AMD announced they will not release Windows 7 drivers for their Ryzen products.

It won't support DX 12 "only" games, but as long as any other game allows you to run with DX 11 or 10 API then you'll be just fine, regarding windows it doesn't matter if your Card is DX 10 or 11, it will run just fine, only in games you will use DX 12 or not, the only scenario in which you won't be able to play is if the game only supports DX 12 API but for now I find that a little bit hard to happen since DX 12 is not really optmized for games just yet.

Hope that helps.

Windows 10 has been solid for me. Faster boot times, DirectX 12 support (Although i have 2 applications that use it) and i much prefer the new UI, feels more modern and the task view is pretty handy. So glad they didn't keep the stupid tiles start menu from Windows 8.1 (although i ran ClassicShell Windows 7 start menu anyway :p).

However, only 1 complaint and that's coming with the next update, no more PAINT!? What are we all going to do without it? ;(
