hi guys im wondering if anyone could give me some help with an issue im having with my old pc. to start with the build in question is cpu: 2600k, motherboard: Asus maximus iv extreme, gpu: Asus hd 7970, ram: 8 gb ddr 3 1600mhz, psu: 750w
so currently my old pc will not display anything on my screen when im using the pcie x16 slot. if i switch to the x8 slot it works fine. i have tried a gtx 1070 in the x16 slot on the maximus board and it works. i have also tried the asus 7970 in x16 slot on a gigabyte z170x gaming 7 and it also works fine displaying visuals, i am so confused. any help would be appreciated.

There will be 0 performance difference if you use that x8 slot. If you want to fix it, and you have the latest BIOS already, it's probably the motherboard. But if it does work in one of the slots I would just leave it as it is and working.
So the issue is that the 7970 does not work specifically in that x16 slot, but another video card does? Try checking for a BIOS update and reset the BIOS to defaults then try it again. If it does not work after that, you should be fine using it in the second slot, you will not see any speed difference.

yes that's correct. problem is it doesn't work in the other pcie x16 slot either. it works in the x8 which I'm told gives less performance. I am updated to the latest bios perhaps I'll go back to default
