Hi there... I am buying i7 7700k in few days. I have a Cooler master 212x CPU cooler currently using with my AMD FX 6300. I read several online posts that the i7 7700k runs very hot. So, my question is..... Can CM 212x is ok if I pair with i7 7700k..? No, I do not want to overclock my CPU. What temp. I'll get on stock speed? Thanks in advance. :)

Solution
If you have ambient temps of 36c in summer you'll probably want a better cooler. Despite the 212 evo having a tdp rating of 180w it doesn't mean it can handle any old cpu oc'd or not. If it did there wouldn't be a need for larger air coolers and aio coolers, it still only has 4 heatpipes and a single 120mm fan. It doesn't have enough thickness or density on the cooling fins to make much use of a push/pull dual fan setup. If you're trying to keep temps around 70c or under at load, even stock, at those high ambient temps consider an aio or higher end air cooler as others have suggested. Larger air coolers have a tdp thermal rating of 250w or more.

Which cooler will work depends on your case. The width of the case has to fit the cooler...

if you dont want to overclock then it will be okay a stock cooler will also cool it but you have aftermarket cooler and you are asking about what temp?
well only you can tell that when you use it temp depend on different situations for different users

I'll overclock my CPU once I get a better cooler. For that I am planing to buy CORSAIR H115i after few months (Coz I am on budget). But Its a water cooler & people don't trust water that much.

yup me neither was using H100I from last few years with in its warranty period died 3 times now its dead again and no warranty i got AIr cooler this time better life and no need to worry about the dead cooler
Mastermaker Air 8 Cpu Cooler i bought and i am happy with it

That's what I'm planing to do. Most of online reviews recommend it as the best AIR Cooler. But it is also heavy & bulky & I'm petty sure it not fit into my mid tower case.

which case you have? it fit in my CM 690 III

I just found that my Motherboard (Asus Z270F Strix Gaming - LGA1151 - 7th Gen) will not support Noctua NH-D15. Here is the Compatibility list.

So, I guess I have to stick with my CM 212x for a while.

It's compatible with the NH D15.

Well, I want my CUP temp below 70. Maybe lower 70-75'C should be ok. Keep in mind that my ambient temp reach up to 36'C in summer time.

FYI, Noctua's website does have a 'cases known to work with assorted Noctua coolers' list...

Which cooler will work depends on your case. The width of the case has to fit the cooler height, if your computer case only supports coolers up to 155mm then a 160mm or 165mm air cooler won't fit with the side cover in place. What ram you have can be an issue, if it's tall ram with big heatsink fins on it or led lighting on top it may not fit under an nh-d14 or nh-d15 or similar coolers that extend over the ram. Something like the cryorig r1 universal has 0 ram conflict due to offset heat pipes. If you go with an aio cooler, be sure your case can fit it.

Aside from ram height clearance and case width, pretty much any intel cooler should work, lga 1150, 1155, 1151 etc all use the same the same mounting hole patterns. Noctua aren't the only decent larger air coolers, the r1 ultimate, phanteks tc14pe, dark rock pro 3, thermalright true spirit 140 power, reeven justice all cool similarly.

Those budget coolers like the 212 EVO just don't really cut it from reading just what is posted here on TH.

That's not even getting into all of the other stuff about them that's out there.

Lots of very bad information around out there saying they are good enough when they really aren't.

The one Noctua cooler that is nice and does work well is the NH U12S for those who need the clearance, same with the NH U14S if they don't want to spend the money on the NH D15, D14 or D15S.
