New laptop and steam is really slow

Since today I got my new laptop and whenever I try to start Steam it's incredibly slow.

*Steam is installed on my SSD*
specs:
i7-7500u 2.7GHz
GTX 940mx 2gb vram
8gb ddr4 memory

Well the hardware isn't anything to write home about but the application shouldn't be slow on its own. this is most likely an issue with your wireless or wired internet connection. if you are using Wi-FI plug in an Ethernet cable and see if it works better. If it does check the manufacturer forum to see if others are having internet connectivity issues with your model of laptop and see if they have solutions there.
