A while ago my network card stopped working after a lightning strike had hit somewhere near my house and the network card just disappeared from my network connections (no LAN connections at all). I've since used a usb Wifi adapter to connect to the internet but since I love gaming I had to buy a new network card and try to get it sorted out, so I did.
I bought this network card from some guy, it was a new network card from Allied Telesis, the model is ATF2701FTX.It didn't come with drivers on a cd or whatever so I found some drivers on the internet for this specific model an installed them. After I had installed everything I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" because it said "no internet connection" in network center. Since this didn't fix the problem I decided to reboot. It seemed normal, the windows logo came up but then I got the BSOD giving the "WDF_VIOLATION" error code. I managed to boot into safe mode after a couple of tries. (because it got stuck in a loop actually, going from restart to recovery and the recovery didnt work it would just reboot again). In safe mode i disabled and uninstalled the drivers for the new network card and still didn't manage to boot up to windows. Only after physically removing the network card was I able to boot into windows again.
Now comes the weird part; I decided I would give it another try (even though it was 2:30am) so I placed the network card in my PC again and just regularly booted and for some reason it just worked. I went to device manager and I let Windows install the drivers automatically, which to my surprise it did and my connection was up and running again. I checked the speed, even played an online game for a while to see how it would be and it was just fine. After like 10 minutes my PC started acting up, freezing when opening folders, the Start button wouldn't work, I couldnt use the Search option etc...so I rebooted and again there was the same WDF VIOLATION error.
I can only assume it has to do with the driver I installed. Today I actually registered on the manufacturer's website (really strange u have to apply on their website to get access to their download center) so I downloaded some driver from there and I will try that later (i need my PC now for work) but in the meantime I would really want to ask you guys if any one knows what could be the problem.
I hope the above is enough information, if not let me know.
Side notes: I have my original network card still (it's integrated in the MoBo just to be clear) in there but it has a steady orange light which I think means it's broken. Don't know whether it makes a difference so I thought I'd mention it.
