I am looking for the gaming laptop under 800. I found two of them.
One is Lenovo Legion Y520 (8GB RAM , 256 GB SSD, core i5 7300 HQ, NVidia 1050 Ti 4GB) ~ 760$ from Lenovo website after student discount

(It also has the option of upgrading to i7 7700HQ at 100$ more. Is that worth it ?)

The other is Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series (8GB RAM , 128 GB SSD+ 1TB 5400 rpm HDD, core i7 7700 HQ, NVidia 1050 4GB) ~ 800ish after student discount

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same. Dell laptop looks dull while Lenovo looks gorgeous.

Is it worth the upgrade for the lenovo from core i5 7300HQ to corei7 7700HQ at 100$ extra ?

Well, it mainly depends on what you want to do in the PC. But, an i5 is really amazing. But, in fact, getting an upgrade to an i7 7700HQ for 100$ is worth it. But if your gonna use the PC for gaming, the i5 will be more than enough. If its for extreme usage, like video editing and multitasking all at the same time, the i7 will be really handy at that time since it has 2 times more threads than the i5 CPU.

Happy to help :)

I forgot to mention this. I am also considering ASUS FX502VM with specs ~ core i5 6300 HQ, 16GB RAM , 1TB 7200 rpm, NVIDIA 1060 3GB ~ 880$ (tax free)
Lenovo's laptop would be 810$ after the tax.

I was initially also thinking Acer Predator Helios (2 y warranty, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA 1060 6GB, core i7 7700HQ) but it seems well above my budget with price tag of 1100-1200$ and also very bulky.

What would be good choice ?

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Chandra Kanth : "Lenovo Legion Y520 or Asus FX520"

What would be the good choice among the following two laptops ?

1) Lenovo Legion Y520 (7th generation core i5 7300HQ, 8GB/256GB SSD, NVIDIA 1050Ti 4GB) ~ 810$ after the tax and student discount

2) Asus FX520 (6th generation core i5 6300HQ, 16GB RAM, 1TB 7200 rpm, NVIDIA 1060 3GB) ~ 880$ taxfree

(I was initially also considering Acer Predator Helios 300 with core i7 7700 HQ, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA 1060 6GB but it was well above my budget with price tag of 1100-1200$ and bulky)

Thanks !
