Hello, I am shifting my room & I use Internet through CAT5e cable by connecting with router...which length is about 12 meter...

Now, want to know if I shift to my new room & connect Internet with CAT6 cable which will require about 20 to 30 meter of cable from my router...will I get less bandwidth...or my bandwidth will decrease???

Thanks in advance,,,Please Reply...

Thanking again,

Yes it does. I believe Cat5e is 320ft before the signal is degraded enough to cause transmission issues. I highly doubt you are close to that limit.

Less then that, you wont have any issues. Just make sure you know how to run cable correctly. Such as in ceiling and crawl spaces do not just lay the cable over lights etc... or things that may interfere with the signal. It is also best to use STP for long runs.

@theyeti87 thanks for the reply...
so you mean...till the length is down to 100 meters there will be no performance issue regarding speed or bandwidth???

Correct. You can expect the same throughput and latency whether it be a 1 meter cable or a 100 meter cable.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_cable#Maximum_cable_segment_length

I'm unsure about why I was down-voted for correct information though.

Correct. The cable should function fully without issues up to 100 meters or 320ft before degradation comes into play.

In theory the shorter the cable the faster it can send/receive transmissions but with the speed a Cat5e cable can transmit. They wont do anything in terms of notable speeds at those lengths.

You will be fine if cable is installed properly.

yes, 100 meters

after that the information will have a hard time traveling the copper wire

the problem with long cables is that they can work as antennas, the longer they are the more external signals they can get

usually this is not a problem, but if the cable is low quality i have seen situations where it does behave weird
