Huge FPS drops mid-game

Hello guys,

After about 2 weeks I fired up CSGO, played 2 matches and got incredible FPS drops. I got lag-spikes - or at least I thought they were - when the game would "throw" me back a few meters or just missed a few frames.

Haven't checked the temps with MSI Afterburner, but after removing my HDD, rearranging my cables for better airflow and dusting off the case, this really shouldn't be a problem imo. (Before the HDD removal, I was running the program for more than a year - temps were pretty good)

I haven't installed any new software, nor plugged in new devices. Now I'll try to force update NVidia drivers.

Playing on:
- Intel Core i5 4690 non-K
- Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce OC
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB SSD
- XFX 550W

What should I check? What should I do?

Thank you in advance!!!

Windows 10?
When it happens
Open Resource Monitor
Look at CPU usage and disk usage (In an update coming soon you'll be able to monitor GPU usage.)
Is either one at 100%
(You may also want to look on the Network tab and see what's going on there.)

I have speed/frame rate issues with a game I play when my Oculus software is updating. It tends to peg my hard drive to 100% usage but that's the same drive that has the game I'm playing at the time so it gets bad but eventually goes away when the update is complete.

Are you running csgo on your SSD or HDD, if HDD - how old is the HDD?
What choke and loss do you have when you get thrown back (visible via net_graph 1 command in csgo)?
Overheating can also be a problem but it would only explain the reduced FPS (if you get any FPS reduction, if not, it's not overheating).

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention - I'm running a genuine Win 8.1 64bit.
I just checked it once - CPU usage was at peak 69%.
The game, along with the OS is installed on the SSD. The HDD is currently out of the PC (it's 2 years old).

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers, let's see how it goes. Others have encountered FPS lags with GTX1070s after the update.......

My college roomate had huge FPS drops when a lot of things happened in game (like grenades, especially smoke grenades, or just intense firefights). He has really bad cooling, and way weaker machine, but the problem seems to be the same
