Which graphics card?

Im looking to purchase a new graphics card. I want to watch 4k movies mainly but also want to play some games like fifa in 4k. What would be the best graphics card I can buy? I was looking at the evga gtx 970

To game in 4k you pretty much need 1080 or 1080ti. Some less GPU intensive games can run on a 1070.

The other issue you will find right now is that the cryptocurrency miners have caused inflated GPU prices for the time being, this means that a 1060 and 1070 cost near the same as a 1080.

a 1060 will not be able to handle games in 4K. I currently game in 4K and I originally started with a 1070. I would handle some games in 4k but with reduced settings or I would struggle with FPS (in 30 range). I then moved to the 1080 and it with out a doubt handled most games in 4k. Doom for instance is packed beautifully and runs amazing in 4k with all settings on ultra. but you go to GTA5 and it beats up the GPU. I now run SLI 1080s and don't have any issue with any game that supports sli with all the highest settings. Games that are outside of sli I still am able to play but may need to turn down a setting or 2. Best bet if you don't want to hit the pocket too hard get a 1080 so if you start getting deeper into gaming you are already setup to handle the majority of games.

In a nutshell:
1060 - Gaming 1080p@60hz on Ultra
1070 - Gaming at 1440p or at higher refresh rate
1080 - Gaming at 4k
1080 ti - Gaming at 4k with 120+ refresh rate.

On some games the 1070 will likely handle it, but at current inflated prices there is no reason to spend $520 on a 1070 (normally a $370 GPU), vs $550 on a 1080.

For just movie playback a GTX 1030 will be sufficient.
