So I have done a fair amount of research on this topic, and realized that my only real option is to do a fresh install on the ssd. With that in mind however, what is the easiest way to remove the windows files from my old drive? Is there a program that can do this simply? How can I insure I am getting everything without leaving behind any files not being used, taking up space? Thank you.

Solution
If your occupied space on current partition C (windows) is smaller than your new SSD:
Get EaseUS ToDO backup FREE, install it and click on system backup, chose your new unformatted SSD as the target and wait.
Restart, go into BIOS, set your new SSD as number 1 BOOT priority.
Profit!
