im mainly gonna use the computer for gaming, video editing and university work.ive read a ton of threads about this topic and everyone prefers the 7700k over the 6800k or ryzen 1700x but because coffeelake next year is going to have 6 cores instead of 4 and the 6800k has 6 cores so which one would be more future proof?i dont mind spending a few extra $$$ on the mobo and the processor if it benefits me in the long run.otherwise i have 16gigs of ram a gtx 1080 g1.

Solution
I'd go with the Ryzen 1700(X)
Price/performance ratio is tough to beat, the 6800k kinda obsolete.
7700k I'd only recommend if gaming is a 90% focus and you're running a 180Hz screen.
But even then a 1700 might be futureproofer
The only reason to pick a 7700K over a Ryzen chip is if you need the absolute best singlethreaded performance possible. For your uses, that peak singlethreaded performance shouldn't be that important, and the big advantage a Ryzen 1700X has in multithreaded performance would help a lot.

The 6800K is just kinda pointless now. The newer 7800X costs less and performs better. And Ryzen is generally a better buy over the 7800X as well.
