Limitations on 2.4ghz frequency

Hi Guys,

I just recently upgraded my internet to 90Mbps but was not getting the speeds posted. i contacted my ISP and they suggested i try hard wiring in and seeing if it would help. I did, and it did. He told me to connect to the *myRouterName*5G to hop onto the 5g frequency but it wasn't available because my card isn't 5ghz compatible. He told me the limitations on 2.4Ghz are why i am not reaching the speeds i do when i am hard wired in.

Simple enough, makes sense....except:

Why is it clearly labelled as 300Mbps when the limitations of 2.4ghz stop it from getting even close to that?

But, the 300Mbit advertised speed is the "link speed". Your throughput is about 1/2 the link speed because of the nature of WIFI. Additionally, that 300Mbit is dependent on the router, the distance from the router, interference, etc ....

In a perfect RF environment with the right router and the right settings that 300Mbit link speed can be achieved. In the real world, with normal RF environment -- 75Mbit throughput max. A couple rooms away from the WIFI source and 40Mbit ...

So sue them. 65Mbit is typical. Is "reasonable" the best term? Perhaps not. So I will refine my answer to "65Mbit is a typical throughput for your hardware."

I will also continue to say "Use wired". There is flat ethernet cable that can run under carpet. You can run around the perimeter of the room. You could use powerline network adapters. WIFI is not the best, or only technology that you can use.
