SLI with different GPU Brands

I currently own a Gigabyte GTX 1080 Founders edition, i just upgraded to a 65Inch 4K display i can run most games at 60FPS with little frame drops to 45-50
so my local computer store doesn't have another Gigabyte 1080 Founders edition GPU would a Asus GTX 1080Turbo 8G Work?

The only requirement* for SLI is to be using the same "chip" (ie a 1080), which vendor or model you get isn't overly relevant.
You'll be limited to the lower of the two cards clock speeds etc, but they'll "work" just fine.

*Provided the card in question supports SLI, of course.

I'm not sure about Pascal, but I know for a fact that with Maxwell, at least with EVGA, some GTX 9-series GPUs didn't work in SLI. I had a blower-type EVGA 970 SC and later added a 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ for SLI. It did not work. When I asked EVGA, they pointed me to their website that said what GPUs were SLI capable and what were not among the same series line.

For my cards, it was a difference in BIOS power and temp management causing them to not be compatible. I wound up selling the SC and buying a second SSC (blessing in disguise since the SSC ACX 2.0+ ran nearly 10C cooler under load ). EVGA finally put up an FAQ sticky after receiving enough complaints:

So while MSI, Gigabyte, and ASUS might allow different model GPUs of the same series to SLI, nothing is ever guaranteed even among the same brand, let alone across different brands.
