My main purpose for this PC is obviously gaming however I also do a lot of game programming. I mainly play eSports games such as CSGO, Dota and Overwatch however I am looking into playing more tripe A titles such as Witcher 3, Shadow or Mordor and any other RPG games to come out in the future. I have a budget of around £1200.

I have recently been wondering if I need more than 8GB RAM and also how important is a case to a build if I don't care about looks but want good expandability.

For RAM, at the moment 8Gb is fine but you may want to go with 16Gb for future-proofing. For the case, go with what you think looks good. You don't need to spend $100+ on a case to get a good one. Something you do want to check for in a case is airflow because without good airflow, your temps will be a fair bit higher.
