Hello everyone. I was hoping you could help me, with trouble shooting recent PC build with power start up issue.

New build PC power issue description: Mother board powers up for about 30 seconds shuts down and restarts cycle.

During the up time this is what I have observed.

- Activate power on with no drive plugged into power system.

- 2 system fans start also LED on fans start, the CPU cooler fan starts.

- the motherboard has four LED lights that activate in the lower right corner of the motherboard identifying the CPU, DRAM, VGA and boot.

- Of the four LED indicators in the lower right corner of the board, The CPU LED lights up as power is applied.

- The CPU light and the DRAM light flicker back-and-forth about four times then the DRAM LED light remains on.

- The last 15 seconds of power on cycle, the LED light effects on the motherboard will be activated and they remain on.

After about 30 or 40 seconds the system powers down and cycle restarts.

Yeah, modern mobos are pretty smart and can tell you specifically where the problem is. (at least the first problem anyways)
Did you read your motherboard manual?
Something is probably wrong with the DRAM, hence why that light stays on.

Does it keep cycling the power for 30-40 seconds? Do you turn it off as soon as it reaches the end of a cycle? Have you tried waiting?
Is the video cable even connected?

I admit some confusion when consulting user manual on the DRAM. I have two 8GB sticks and inserted into DDR4_1 & DDR4_3 thinking for channel B. But, on looking at a configuration table in manual perhaps I should use DDR4_ 1 & _2.

I am going to repower using only one memory stick in slot DDR4_1 as a test.

Yes the power would reset after that time period and keep repeating. Powered off after four or five restarts.

No HDMI cable oe VGA cable connected to outputs.

Thanks for your input.

Then how do you know anything is wrong? it may be complaining there's no monitor/display device connected.

James, I was looking inside the chassis, the fans stopped and the lights went out! lol
Thanks for your DRAM suggestion, that was the answer. I had inserted the second DRAM into the wrong slot. I removed to use just one stick of memory and the power remained on. Then turned power off and inserted the second stick into the slot adjacent to slot one which is the correct DDR4 slot #3. I am now ready to setup the BIOS and install the OS. Thanks for your input, your were very helpful.

The solution to this question was that I had inserted the second DRAM4 memory stick into the incorrect slot.
