ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura not booting

Hi there, I've been having a rough couple of days with my computer.

To give context: A couple days ago I came home to find that my room smelt like burned rubber and my computer screen was off. Long story short, I wound up replacing both my CPU and MOBO and just finished reinstalling everything. I have the motherboard mentioned in the subject and I got an AMD AM3+ socket CPU that fit nicely. Before I couldn't even get it to power on.

My current problem is that while it will power on... nothing happens on my screen. I see the fans all going off, my standby LED is on like it should be, and no other lights are flashing. For all intents and purposes, it looks like the hardware is all running fine, but it just doesn't seem to boot. I tried checking the power connections and tried a different monitor which also didn't work. If I had to guess, I'm thinking I didn't plug something in right, but I've gone and checked all of those, so I'm stumped. This has been a very annoying few days, so any help would be appreciated.

Monitor plugged into GPU or motherboard? Needs to be gpu.

Any chance your PSU fried too which caused the other issue?

Have you confirmed your monitor isn't also toast?

If none of that works perhaps your GPU is toast, remove it and try onboard video

It's definitely plugged into the GPU and both monitors are fine. I have another PSU I could try, but everything looks like it's getting power.
If it helps, I forgot to mention that I also can't power down my tower with the power button, I have to flip the switch on the PSU. But I can still turn it on with the power button?

Funny thing - this MOBO isn't quite fancy enough for its own monitor output.
Anyway, I just tried a bunch of things, in no particular order:
- I tried booting with 1 RAM stick
- I tried booting with 1 and 2 new RAM sticks
- I tried my old GPU
- I tried an HDMI cable and a different VGA cable
- I unplugged all my hard drives in case of BIOS issues

Seriously, what gives? I have a new PSU I'm going to try out tomorrow and I'll report back, but this is maddening. I hope the issue I had didn't fry my MOBO, CPU, and PSU.

Days and parts later, I'm typing this from my desktop! It turns out that my power supply was, at least, part of the issue. I swapped it out and my computer was able to boot again. Unfortunately the CPU was still overheating and reaching 80 Celsius after a minute, so I swapped out the heatsink, too. Things are running smoothly now!

Hi there. I'm not sure if I should be making a new thread for this, but here we go.
I'm still having issues, though not nearly as severe as before. Like I said before , I'm on a new motherboard with a new CPU, PSU, and heatsink.

For some reason, whenever I'm doing something (almost always playing a video game), my computer will just freeze. The sound stops, the screen freezes, I can't make any more inputs, and nothing happens until I turn off my computer. Other than this happening, everything else is working great. I figured, okay, maybe I've got some bad RAM. It wouldn't be the first time, right? Of course, as soon as I start feeling comfortable again, it freezes.
Any help is appreciated.

I don't know if you've solved your problem or not, but I did want to pass along what I've tried. If you did solve the mystery I'm curious what you did. I don't really have an answer for you but it sounds like we're both having the same if not a similar problem. I've tried refreshing the the MB BIOS, pulling out the M2 drive (C:), reinstalling Win 10 or Linux on another which it wouldn't let me do, it just stopped. I cant get into safe mode. Something is stopping any attempt to access the PC except through the BIOS. The Win 10 edition I purchased was from one of those discount on-line sources and then you download it. it locks itself to your MB MAC # and can only be reinstalled I think 6 times. Since I removed the drive it was on and deleted the security keys from the BIOS I don't see how that could be the problem.
