My ex asus rog strix gtx 1070 idled at 37-40 C and went all the way to 60-64 C during 1440p 60hz everything on ultra during BAttlefield 4.

I now sold the 1070 and bought an msi gaming x gtx 1080 which idles at about 48-50 C and goes up to 70 C while playing the above game on the above settings.

Everything on stock configuration.

Im aware temps are within an acceptable range, but arent those idle/gaming 1080 temps sorta high?

Kinda felt like asking as I literally unboxed this yesterday. Should I be worried?

Thanks.

Pd: bf4 is the only "demanding" game i tested as I dont own any other yet.

I know temps are acceptable, I just wonder why theres such an increase in temperature. Its not 2-3 C but sometimes over 10C which I consider quite a lot to be honest.

dust or airflow or maybe different quality cooler system from MSi and asus

This is really starting to bother me, i know it isn't turning on fire or anything I just know 50+C while idle isnt that normal.

Is there any chance the thermal paste is badly applied and needs to be replaced even though the card is days old?

Well, the fan isn't even going at any point in that screenshot. If you're worried about the temperatures, try a more aggressive fan curve.

Regardless of the fan curve, it isn't supposed to reach 57 C while light browsing and watching youtube videos, right? updated my earlier screenshot with the 57C one.

I shouldnt be setting custom fan curves to decrease the temperature when idling if Im not mistaken. My previous gtx 1070 idled at minus 40C, this is weird.

Thoughts of tearing it down and replacing thermal paste?

no need man,as long as not affected the GPU performance i think its fine

How long was the 57 after the 60 degrees at nearly full load? The idle is on the high side, but there are a million factors here. You adjust the fan curve to see what the temperatures are at different fan speeds, to help diagnose a problem. I'd also want to know what your temperatures are during different benchmarks, but as far as I can tell, your only diagnostic so far has been to look at the temperatures at some unspecified random time, which isn't that helpful by itself.

If there really is a problem with it, I'd RMA it long before tinkering with a new GPU.
