I am upgrading the processor in my old computer. Motherboard is: P5WDG2 WS Professional.
https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/P5WDG2_WS_Professional/overview/

The ASUS website specified that the newer processor requires a BIOS update to version 0905.
Initially version 0408 was installed and i attempted to update from within the BIOS using the EZ Flash 2 utility, but halfway through erasing the existing version it froze.

Next i tried to follow the instructions for the CrashFree BIOS 3 utility.
I've downloaded the BIOS file to a 2GB Fat32 usb drive and renamed it WDG2WSP.ROM, plugged it in and started the computer.
There are 5 short beeps (i've looked through google and can't find what this means).
It searches through floppy and cd drive, then finds the usb, says 'Reading file "WDG2WSP.ROM"_
Then stops and does nothing...
(If i start the computer with no usb drive plugged in, it cycles through floppy-cd-usb searching on a continuous loop. So it is detecting the file on the usb drive when plugged in, it's just not reading it).

I've tried this with multiple versions of the BIOS, all with the same result.
I've tried to clear CMOS with the jumpers and removing the battery. No luck.
Unfortunately i don't have access to the DVD that came with the board.

I am going to buy a new chip with the BIOS loaded from ebay. For $15 this seems to be the cheapest option to get it working again.

My question is, will this new chip fix it? or does something else stop working when this happens to a motherboard?
