So, my corsair cx750m had a burning smell coming from it, so I took it out of my machine and threw it out. it lasted me a good 1 1/2 years, and now I need a new power supply. Will an evga gq 750w power supply do the job? Thanks!

I said it would be a good option for three reasons. It is the same wattage as what was in it before, EVGA is a good brand that makes quality products, and it was an 80plus gold rated PSU. Plus that PSU should come with a manufacturer 5 year warranty.

Sure if we knew his system specs we may find out that 750w is a bit of overkill for his system, but that would never hurt.

One thing you should consider though is if your current corsair 750w PSU is still under warranty. I'm sure it came with at least a 3 year warranty, I would look into that. I personally own a corsair 1000w 80plus...

I personally own a corsair 1000w 80plus gold PSU, I believe corsair is a good brand that makes good products, in your case you may have gotten unlucky or had a power surge or dirty power fry the PSU overtime.
