Hi. Recently got my internet upgraded from 50mbs to over 100mbs. My speeds were terrible and wifi was going out. My ISP came out and said I had to get a better router. So I upgraded to one with 300+ speeds dualband netgear n600. However after the upgrade the internet was still wishy washy, but recently has gotten better. When I plug my computer directly into my modem (which has one port with coax going in) I get speeds around 120mbs. However when I plug the modem into the router and my computer into the router so my family can use wifi I get speeds around 60-70? Anyway to fix/improve? Pretty big dip.

That pretty clearly establishes that the problem is happening between the modem and your computer. This means the router and two ethernet cables (modem to router, and router to computer) are suspect. Since you've already tried swapping the router, try switching out the cables. Also make sure the ethernet ports on the router are clear of dust and the contact pins are not bent, and the cables are securely plugged in.

It's possible the router you have may still be the bottleneck. Netgear...

It's possible the router you have may still be the bottleneck. Netgear made a bunch of different N600 routers. Look on the label for a device model. It should be something like WNDR3400. That'll tell us exactly what hardware you've got. In the meantime, you can try a factory reset of the router. Sometimes the configuration can become corrupted and cause issues.

Thanks I thought it had to be this for sure! So I found my year old N900 dualband router that has " Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports are ideal for HD gaming & video and ultra, high-speed wired networking " and still am getting 60ish.

Thanks I'm going to try and get new cables or see if I can get some free ones from a friend. I just replaced my router with an older, but good one, I had. N900 that says it has " Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports are ideal for HD gaming & video and ultra, high-speed wired networking " but I'm still getting 65 down.
