i currently own a i7 2600k coupled with ga h61 and 8gb ram ddr3 and gtx1060 6g

i have a chance to sell my system and pay double the price of my system to get
MSI Z170A GAMING + I5 6600K

Iwill sell mother and processor for 250$
And buy the other mother and processor for 550$ (used btw)
my question is
will the change is perftormance in gaming justify the price difference

Hard to say selling for $100 and paying $200 is very different from $500 and $1000.

If old has 1 stick of RAM and new has the proper 2 sticks, that matters. Exactkly what is involved in the switch ? MoBo / CPU or everything ?

I wouldn't bother. The 6600K is a lot newer and has a higher IPC and Clock Speed but you're actually loosing threads (8 to 4) and i wouldn't recommend even buying an i5 new these days anyway when you can get a Ryzen 5 for a similar price with 4 Cores/8 Threads or 6 Cores/12 Threads which would be a wise decision since 4 threads is slowly phasing out and i assume you'll want to keep this as long as possible. So to answer your question, no i wouldn't go from an i7 2600K to i5 6600K. Try grab a Ryzen 5 around a similar price if you can. Hope this helps

I would not pay more than $300 for $300 worth of parts...; $500 is ridiculous, you could get a new 7700K and Z270 board, and have $70 left over..

Few things to consider given that cores has no impact on his stated usage

1. Its a gaming box not a workstation so multitasking I wouldn't think is a concern. The 6600k wins in all 3 categories against the 2600k on your link 25% faster in the stated usage - gaming, 19% faster on desktop and even 6% faster in workstation.

2. More importantly, it would appear the OP is looking swapping a used MoBo / CPU combo (at least) for a somewhat newer used MoBo / CPU combo. I would expect that a new Ryzen chip and MoBo is not going to be in the same price category.

3. For the stated usage (gaming) Ryzen would be step down, the 7500 is faster than even the 1800x at 1080p

4. Using your source ... and assuming paying comparable price for buying new (which is not the case here), yes Ryzen would have the clear advantage, but that is not the stated usage.
