I have a Dell optiplex 390 that I bought a couple of weeks ago. It's ran alright. I decided to buy a graphics card, (asus gtx 970 oc 4gb gddr5 to be exact) and I've gotten nothing. Pc won't even turn on. What should I do? Maybe my motherboard isn't cimpatible?

Solution
If you have the Mini Tower version of the Dell optiplex 390, the motherboard will be okay. The included power supply is probably the issue because it only puts out 265W for the MT version, and Nvidia suggests a power supply of at least 500-600W. I couldn't tell you if you would be able to swap out power supplies because many computer manufacturers use proprietary designs that are not easy to swap out. Hopefully someone with more experience with Dells can help you with that.

Note, if you have the SFF or MT version of the Optiplex 390, the motherboards do not support any graphics card above 25W.

Best of luck.
