I recently bought the Fiio E10k for my Astro A40s (motherboad is a Asus Z170-A) but it keeps making a fan/rudder noise. I keep tweaking my mic settings but I cant fix it

Solution
If your adapter connects from a TRRS type jack to 2 x TRS jacks. You may still be sharing a ground connection. It is still worth checking if the noise goes away when using just the mic with the headset connected.

With a TRS you have Ground, Right and Left with TRS you have Mic, Ground, Right and Left(a shared ground)

You can test this with sound recorder on your computer.

Normally these devices are expected to be used with the same sound card for output(headphones) and input(mic). You simply are now setup this way.
It sounds like some kind of ground loop coming from running 2 usb powered devices that are connected to one another.

Do you actually need the DAC? Does the Astro also have a built in DAC(honest question. I am not familiar with that device. Does it have the mixamp device)?

Can you list how the devices are connected? You may be able to isolate on devices power(I would guess the Astro unit).

The headset did not come with a mix amp (Astro A40 2013 edition) all it came out was a headphone and a mic jack

the mic only. I cant hear what they are hearing but they always say my mic is making a weird noise

You may be able to do some kind of loopback test or even use sound recorder to try to see if you can here it.

For the hell of it, try to record a test with the headset disconnected. I know it sounds strange, I just wonder if the mic and headphones share the same ground line(again ground loops are not always fun.).

they are not on the same line I put the option to make them be separate because I mic would pick up ingame noise
